CMA 10m elevation
This is the Mallee and Wimmera portion of the Department of Sustainability and Environment's
Statewide 10m Digital Terrain Model. The data has been contributed to improve management
of the Mallee land resource, which is one of the goals of the Mallee CMA's Regional
Catchment Strategy. The data is elevation in meters above sea level, on a 10 x 10m
grid. Original data can be accessed via
www.land.vic.gov.au/vicmapdata.
GSV Gamma radiometrics
This data is GeoScience Victoria's airborne Gamma Radio Spectrometry survey of victoria
from 1994. The data is public domain and was downloaded from Geoscience Australia's
Geophysical Archive Data Delivery System.
The data are measured gamma-ray emissions from isotopes of potassium, thorium and
uranium, and the total of all emissions, on a 50 x 50m grid. The data was collected
by an airborne sensor and has some noticeable east-west artifacts, particularly
south of Swan Hill and east of Birchip. The measurements may relate to differences
in parent material of soil close to the surface (ie. 0-30 cm).
GSV Magnetics
This data is Geoscience Victoria's airborne Magnetics data, obtained at the same
time (and from the same source) as the radiometrics data. The data is a measurement
of the earth's magnetic field on a 50 x 50m grid. The measurements relate to depth
to bedrock and may be of interest in some areas.
Radmap 2009
This data is Minty
et al.(2009)'s
Radiometric Map of Australia.
The data was obtained from the
Geophysical Archive Data Delivery System.
The data are estimates of soil potassium (%) and thorium and uranium (ppm), and
the total of all three, on a 100 x 100m grid. This is less precise than the GSV
Gamma radiometrics, but filtering has been used to remove artifacts.
SRTM Elevation
This data is NASA's Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission data. The data is public domain,
distributed by the
CGIAR Consortium for Spatial Information.
The data is elevation in meters above sea level, on a 90x 90m grid. It was obtained
in 2007 and may not be the latest version. The measurements are a useful source
of elevation data in South Australia and New South Wales.
Google Earth
Large-scale images of parts of GSV Gamma radiometrics, Magnetics, and SRTM Elevation,
have been made into Google Earth 'kmz' files and can be downloaded
here. The images can help to make
sense of the small-scale variation visible on-farm.
